For the past several years, I’ve taken part in the Goodreads Reading Challenge. My goals have ranged from 20 to 25 books in a year, and I’ve only reached that goal once (in 2014). I was ahead of the pace last year for quite some time, but fell behind toward the end of the year. I’m determined to hit my goal of 20 books this time around! If you want to set your own Goodreads reading goal, follow me so we can keep each other accountable!
And now for some books on my to-read pile…
The Light We Lost // This book continually popped up on everyone’s must-read lists last year, and I got it as a Christmas gift (so I can finally stop having book envy!). It’s a devastating romance (debut!) novel about first love, and it’s described as “One Day meets Me Before You” by The Skimm. Can’t. Wait.
A Generation of Sociopaths // Millennials are so often made fun of as a self-entitled generation that will doom our country… But who makes up the generation that raised Millennials and also got our country to its current place to begin with? You can read more about the book in this early review by the Boston Globe.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child // I’m a crazy Potterhead, but I still haven’t read Cursed Child. Why, you might ask? The proud theater lover in me told me to wait until I saw the play first. Well… I DO have tickets to see it on Broadway, but not until November of this year. So I’m allowing myself to read it just before I see it or I’ll end up reading it after. Anyways, I’m finally checking this off my to-read list this year!
China Rich Girlfriend // I read the first in the series, Crazy Rich Asians, last summer and it was so ridiculously fun. While we all wait for the movie adaptation to come out this summer (!!!), I can’t wait to read the second book in the series!
The Year of Less // I’ve been following Cait Flanders’ blog for the past few years (formerly Blonde on a Budget), and her podcast with Carrie Smith is one of my faves (Honest Money Conversations – give it a listen here!). A few years ago, Cait found herself in a spending spiral and decided to do a “shopping ban.” She’s written about it on her blog, but I can’t wait to delve further into this period of her life and how to affect change to others areas of your life besides your wallet.
Fire and Fury // Yes, it’s the book by Michael Wolff that everyone and their mother has been talking about. I’m currently in the midst of reading it, and it’s crazy (or, in the words of Sean Spicer, “You can’t make this sh*t up!”)
The Last Mrs. Parrish // Someone I follow on Instagram recently recommended this book, and they finished it in. a. day. – it was that good! She listened to the audiobook version, and that’s the format she suggested reading it. I haven’t really given audiobooks a try, but this might be the first one I test out. It’s apparently recommended if you loved Gone Girl… which, well, I did!
