What I Did in June

In many ways, it feels like summer flew by in the blink of an eye. In other ways, I feel like things that happened at the beginning of the summer actually happened 5 years ago. Maybe it’s because my summer was generally very full of activity, but I’m happy to look back and share all of the fun stuff I did in June:

OSLO Wins at the Tony Awards

I mentioned in an earlier post that I was working on a few Tony-nominated shows this year. Well, one of them won two awards! OSLO (by J.T. Rogers and directed by Bartlett Sher) took home one of the highest honors of the night – the Tony Award for Best New Play. In addition, one of the actors in OSLO, Michael Aronov, took home the award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. Needless to say, this was an exciting night, and the energy in the party room (at P.J. Clarke’s, across from Lincoln Center) was insanely energetic. I feel so incredibly proud and honored to have worked on this powerful piece of theater. (If you’re in the U.K., you can catch the West End production this fall!)

My First Spin Class

As I’m typing this today I’m reminded that I survived my first spin class. I’m not going to lie or sugarcoat anything – I don’t exercise, and I’m pretty out of shape. Since I would love for this to change, my friend suggested that I come to a spin class with her. I eventually caved into the peer pressure (ok, ok… I agreed and was actually excited about it). We met at a Chelsea Flywheel studio and spun away. It was pretty fun while it was happening, and the hour flew by. While I’m not sure if this will become my primary form of fitness (I wasn’t walking normally for the rest of the day and suffered from this for the rest of the week), I know it’s something that I can handle and have fun while doing it.

Behold: this is what you can expect to look like after your first spin class.

Our Anniversary

My boyfriend, Gavin, and I celebrated our anniversary in June. We didn’t plan anything too major for the actual day since we knew we would be going to Orlando at the end of August, but it was fun too look back on the years of memories we’ve built so far. Here’s to many more years.

Happy anniversary, @rockeratheart. I guess you're pretty special 💕 here's to many more years 🥂

A Night at the Museum

As I type this section, I’m realizing how ridiculous I might come across, so here goes: my birthday is kind of a big deal. Or rather, birthdays in my family have always been celebrated to the extreme. As an early birthday gift this year, Gavin treated us to a night at the American Museum of Natural History (yes, the same museum from the movie!). It was one of the most fun nights I’ve ever had, and I got to live out my childhood fantasy of hanging out all night in a museum, exploring – sometimes with flashlights! – and sleeping over. Needless to say, Gavin outdid himself this year.

Yes, this is the same outfit from the post-spin picture. I swear I washed my clothes in between wears!

I’m planning on sharing what I did for the rest of the summer, along with some other fun posts over the next weeks. Stay tuned!

What did you do this summer?

I’d love to hear, so comment below!

My name is Jenny. I’m a 20-something Midwest transplant living on the Upper West Side of New York City. I recently graduated with my MA in Arts Administration from New York University and I also have a BA in Advertising and Media Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Charla Feliz means “Happy Talk” in Spanish and is inspired by the song of the same name from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical masterpiece South Pacific (my favorite musical!). I aim to fill CF with nothing but good vibes. ✌️ I have interests in the arts, food, style, pop culture, and urban living – and you can expect to find some of those within the pages of CF.
