I saw comedian Marc Maron this past Friday night at BAM as a part of his Maronation comedy tour. Needless to say, the legend was hilariously amazing.
Anyhow, I knew I wanted to read his book Attempting Normal – and what better time to read it than the week that I would see him live in-performance!
I just finished reading it, and I really loved it. It’s honest, funny, and, at times, pretty emotionally raw.
Here’s the 411: it’s a collection of 25 essays on his love life, cats, comic inspiration, upbringing, masturbation habits (more LOL than gross – trust me!), and other anecdotes from his life at the Cat Ranch. More often than not, you’ll find your mouth twitching into a laugh-smile.
If you’re into comedy, I highly recommend adding this book to your must-read list. It’s a quick read and gives you insight into one of the comics who came up with Louis C.K. and Sarah Silverman, but didn’t necessarily find the big break that he was looking for. OR you might know him from this little interview he did. He also has a TV show on the IFC channel (seasons 1 and 2 available on Netflix).
My take: 4.5 out of 5 stars – Boomer Lives!
