[currently] On My Radar

This semester has been rough. There’s no other description I could possibly give it. I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it hasn’t been easy to think about anything but the sheer amass of assignments and exams and what I’m going to do this summer.

I have a sinking feeling that these next few weeks are going to fly by, especially given that the weather is increasingly better – a sign of summer (!!!). Since I don’t want to think about the crazy amount of things I still have to do before the semester is over, I thought I would share some of the things I’ve been using to procrastinate…

Girl, a new biblical movie

I just got caught up with Lena Dunham’s SNL episode, and this was, by far, one of the funnier sketches. With all the new biblical movies that have been released, it’s about time that someone made a little fun of it. A clear parody of biblical films and HBO’s Girls, Girl is the story of Adam, Eve, and the Garden of Eden. Watch for yourself to see the parallels!

 Divergent trilogy

In any free time I actually have, I’ve been reading Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy. Though there are definite similarities to Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, Divergent is a bit more sci-fi and its protagonist, Tris, is very different from Katniss. Set in a futuristic, dystopian Chicago, Beatrice “Tris” Prior must choose a faction in which to train with and live out the rest of her life – Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, or Erudite. However, Tris is Divergent – meaning she meets the qualifications for more than one faction.

I saw the movie before I started the books, and I feel like I need to see it one more time to really take it in. Shailene Woodley plays Tris, and it’s been fascinating to watch her transform into another multifaceted character. Also, I feel like Tris has a bit more emotion and depth than Katniss, which makes her slightly more interesting to follow in her journey (I still love THG, though!). If you need a new addiction in your life and have time to commit to a trilogy, pick up Divergent now.

Brewers “Happy” music video

Unfortunately, I don’t stay too current with sports-world happenings. But when I do, it’s because of things like this Brewers ‘Happy’ music video. One of my favorite pastimes when I’m with my dad is seeing a Brewers game at Miller Park. This video makes me crave the ballpark, its energy, and the delicious Dippin’ Dots more than anything right now. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that Hank the dog is in it! Animals! Animals! Animals!

It’s really no secret that I’m obsessed with everything animals. I always envision myself adopting a million cats and dogs when I have my own house, but I’m secretly a one-pet kind of person (I love to spoil Brownie more than anything else). In keeping with my animal affection, these are the three things that I’m squealing over this week:

Squeaking Baby Sloths

Oh my goodness… I don’t know any other noise in the world as adorable as a baby sloth’s squeaks. If you’ve never thought twice about sloths before, prepare to smile with delight at the cuteness of these babies:

The Majesty of the Dog

Dogs really make the world go ’round. With their unconditional loving ability and sixth sense of knowing exactly how you feel, dogs are really one of the most fascinating creatures on earth. If you need more giggle in your life, look no further: this collection of dog photos and gifs will sum up just why dogs are so perfect.

Ummm, yeah – so these are my perfect distractions to all of the responsibilities I’ve been avoiding. But, if I do say so myself, they are some very good distractions!

What’s been your procrastination material these days? I’d love to know!
