[currently] Returning to my Shopping Roots

JCPenney has been viewed unfavorably by disgruntled consumers and the media over the past several years. However, I recently made a little trip to their online store and was nothing but pleased with what I came across. I still don’t get why people don’t like or are simply afraid to shop here. The prices are excellent and the styles are actually fashionable (Joe Fresh, anyone?).

Personally, I don’t really care if almost everything in the store is on sale. Who WOULDN’T want that!? I used to shop at Penney’s with my mom all the time when I was younger, and I’m returning to those roots. Not only can I find fashions that others might not even be wearing (because they’re not shopping here!), but I’m saving my money through their deals.

Here are some of the jcp styles that I’m loving:

Accessories

Lulu caseLulu iPhone 5 case $9.99

I love dogs, and I love my iPhone 5. What better way to combine these two things but through this adorable Lulu by Lulu Guinness phone case!?

Infinity Scarf

jcp infinity scarf $14.99

I actually already have this jcp animal print infinity scarf, and I have to say that I absolutely love it. It’s so soft and perfect at keeping my neck warm. It also matches nearly every winter outfit I own – meaning I’m definitely getting my money’s worth from this piece!

Nina’s Must Haves

Worthington jacket $39.99 // Worthington blouse $24.99

Liz Claiborne bag $36.99 // Worthington skirt $24.99

Fashion designer Nina Garcia is jcp’s resident “Style Voice.” Each month, she pulls together different pieces to create themed outfits and trend inspiration. The above outfit is from the February Nina’s Must Haves and is called Corporate Cool. I love the pop of green against the black – perfect for beginning the transition from winter into spring.

jcp’s Outfits You’ll Love

jcp outfitjcp blazer $35.99 // jcp sweater $29.99

jcp jeans $27.99 // (similar) Yuu wedges $39.99

Similar to Nina’s Must Haves, jcp’s Outfits You’ll Love has collections that pool together some of the jcp brand’s pieces to create different outfits. I personally love the above ensemble. It’s casual, yet chic enough to wear to your internship, job, or classes.

Separates

nicole dressnicole by Nicole Miller dress $29.99

This sexy nicole by Nicole Miller LBD is perfect for dressing up or down. I can imagine a denim jacket or statement necklace being paired with this number. AND this dress is machine-washable (I’m a sucker for simplicity!).

joe fresh coatJoe Fresh trench coat $49

This is the absolute perfect coat for going into the spring season. I personally love it in tan, but it also comes in coral and dark blue. The tan color is great for pairing with colorful scarves (like the model above) that will really give a “pop” to your outfit.

joe fresh striped dressJoe Fresh striped dress $22.99

This dress is also a really great winter-to-spring transition piece. The black and white provide the darker winter tones, but a statement necklace or colorful scarf can give the outfit the spring brightness it needs. With its longer sleeves, it can easily be worn as is or cuffed with a blazer.

mng dressMNG by Mango dress $45

I love the floral print on this dress – perfect for spring and summer! For the spring, this could easily be paired with a denim jacket and cowboy boots or brown knee-high boots. To dress it up, pair a cute, simple necklace, a cardigan, and some heels or flats.

For the Home

bookendsHappy Chic by Jonathan Adler apple bookends $29.99

I love that these apple bookends are quirky but simple enough to not take away too much attention on a bookshelf. And who doesn’t love Jonathan Adler!?

blue lampGlass Table Lamp $39.99

I’m completely in love with this blue color on the base of this lamp. The sleek silhouette is also lovely to fit into any room.

 animal lamps

Owl lamp $49.99 // Bulldog lamp $49.99

These two lamps are probably some of my favorite Internet finds… ever! They’re so adorable and would really give character to any room. They’re also a great conversation piece (“do you like owls or something?” or “do you have a bulldog?”). They are made of ceramic and the lamps shades are removable (so if you want to add a funky shade of your own, so be it!). The cord is partially retractable (no tripping!!!) and it’s a 3-way light. This is definitely going on my wish list.

* * * * *

Well, there you have it. I’m going against the current and shopping at JCPenney (gasp!). With prices I can afford and styles I love, it’s hard to turn away and pretend I’m not interested. I think that everyone (including you!) can find something at Penney’s that fits into their wardrobe or home, just like I have. Don’t be afraid. Don’t go running because this store is offering you a great price. It’s not a trap. It’s just a really good deal.

When was the last time you shopped at JCPenney? If you haven’t gone in a while, you should really browse through their online store – you won’t regret it.
